FAQs

What is TCM Dermatology?

TCM Dermatology is an internal, pattern-based approach to skin health rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Rather than treating the skin as an isolated issue, it looks at how inflammation, immunity, digestion, hormones, circulation, and the nervous system contribute to what shows up on the skin.

Care focuses on regulating underlying patterns, such as heat, dampness, stagnation, and deficiency, primarily through custom herbal medicine, supported by lifestyle guidance. The goal is lasting change, not symptom suppression.

Is herbal medicine required?

Yes. Herbal medicine is foundational and non-negotiable.
Chronic and inflammatory conditions require internal regulation. Supportive therapies may be layered in, but ongoing care depends on reasonable adherence to the herbal and lifestyle plan.

How long does this take?

Most patients require a minimum of 4 months, with many benefiting from 6–12 months of consistent care, depending on complexity, history, and compliance. Early shifts may occur, but durable change takes time.

What advanced skin modalities do you offer?

Advanced modalities are supportive tools, not the foundation of care. They are used selectively to calm inflammation, support barrier repair, and enhance outcomes when appropriate.

May include:

  • Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP)

  • Advanced facial and barrier-supportive therapies

  • Acupuncture and dry needling

  • Targeted external and topical therapies

Internal regulation through herbal medicine remains central.

Do you offer quick fixes or one-off treatments?

No. This clinic does not provide symptom-only or one-visit solutions for complex or chronic conditions. Care is structured for long-term healing, not temporary relief.

Do you take insurance?

No. We are a private-pay clinic and do not bill insurance, submit claims, or complete insurance-related paperwork. This allows for individualized care without restrictions.

Are you a primary care provider or dermatologist?

No. This clinic does not replace primary care or dermatology. Care is complementary and focused on internal regulation and supportive skin therapies.

What happens if I don’t follow the care plan?

This work requires participation.
If a patient is unable or unwilling to reasonably adhere to the prescribed plan, care may be paused or discontinued. Discontinued care does not qualify for refunds, credits, or transfers.

How do I know if this is right for me?

This may be a good fit if you are looking for:

  • A clear, structured plan

  • Internal, root-based care

  • Long-term support

  • And are willing to participate consistently

If you’re seeking fast suppression or minimal involvement, this is likely not the right approach.
